SG777 Expiry Date Meaning for a Promotion's Credit

An expiry date is the moment a promotion's credit stops being usable; a validity period is the length of time it stays usable.

Expiry date meaning comes down to one question: until which minute can you use what the promotion handed you? The date is written inside the rules section, which the pillar page on the mechanics meaning of a promotion notice covers line by line.

This page sorts out the two clocks a notice can use and shows how to count each one. Players must be 21 or older.

Expiry Date Meaning in Plain Terms

A notice can say when credit ends in several ways. The wording decides which clock is running and what you must count.

Wording in the rulesClockCount fromExample reading
Valid until 31 March, 23:59Fixed momentCalendarEnds that minute whatever the day you joined
Valid for 7 daysLengthA start point the notice namesEnds 7 days after that start
Expires 24 hours after creditingLengthThe credit landingEnds exactly 24 hours later
Use within 3 days of opt-inLengthYour opt-inEnds 3 days after you joined

The dates and lengths in the table are examples made up to show the shapes, not any promotion’s rule. Whatever the shape, the rule that matters is the one printed in your own notice.

Expiry Date Versus Validity Period

Expiry date

An expiry date is a point on the calendar. It does not care when you joined; late arrivals simply get less time.

Validity period

A validity period is a stretch of time. It gives every player the same length, but only if the start point is named.

Use this order to read either one:

  1. Find the word: valid until, expires, valid for, within.
  2. Find the unit: days, hours or a named date.
  3. Find the start point, if the clock is a length.
  4. Find the time of day and the time zone.
  5. Write the exact end time in your own notes.

What Happens to Unused Credit at the End

The mechanics line should say, and most commonly it says one of three things. The table lists them with the question to ask.

OutcomeWhat it meansWhat to ask
Credit removedUnused promotion credit disappearsDoes any winning already made stay?
Progress resetsThe turnover count starts overIs the earlier staking lost?
Winnings cappedOnly part of a win can be keptWhat is the cap, in pesos?

PAGCOR’s Casino Regulatory Manual for Licensed Land-Based Casinos (revision 0, effective 13 August 2025) gives one example from the land-based setting. Its Regulation 18 says promotional coupons carry a notice that they must be redeemed for play within a period the licensee sets, not exceeding 15 days from issuance, and that coupons redeemed at the cashiering location never expire.

The DTI’s Sales Promotion Division page adds the outer limit: a promotion runs for a limited period with a maximum of 1 year. Read your own notice for the shorter period that actually applies.

Worked Example: Counting Hours and Turnover

This example uses round numbers chosen only for arithmetic. Say a notice credits 150 pesos at 10:00 on a Monday, valid for 72 hours, with a turnover of 20 times.

  1. End time: 72 hours after 10:00 Monday is 10:00 Thursday.
  2. Turnover to clear: 150 pesos times 20 equals 3,000 pesos of stakes.
  3. Per day: 3,000 pesos over 3 days equals 1,000 pesos of stakes a day.
  4. Per hour of play: at 2 hours a day, that is 500 pesos of stakes each hour.

Compare this with “valid for 3 days” counted by calendar days, which could end at 23:59 on Wednesday, about 14 hours earlier. The unit changes the answer. The glossary page on how turnover is counted over time explains why each stake adds to the total.

Two sibling pages sit beside this one: the cap on each stake in max bet slots rules during a promotion, and the wallet effect in available balance labels in a casino wallet.

Problems and Fixes

Problem

The notice gives a number of days with no start point.

Fix

Ask the support of the casino where your account is held what the days are counted from, and keep the reply. Until you have it, treat the earliest possible end as the real one.

Problem

You joined late in the day and the clock seems to have run short.

Fix

Check whether the notice is a fixed date or a length. A fixed date ends for everybody at the same minute, so late joiners get less time.

Problem

The credit is gone and you want to know why.

Fix

Open the history or balance details in the casino account you hold and match the removal against the notice’s end time. Contact that casino’s support with the notice text and the times.

FAQ

What does expiry date mean on a promotion?

It is the last moment the credit or reward can be used. After that moment the mechanics decide the outcome, which may be removal of the unused credit. Read the exact time as well as the day.

What is the difference between an expiry date and a validity period?

An expiry date is a fixed point on the calendar, such as the end of a named day. A validity period is a length, such as 7 days, counted from a start point the notice must name. If the start point is missing, ask before you opt in.

What happens to my balance when the credit expires?

The mechanics line says. Common outcomes to look for are that the unused credit is removed, that progress on the turnover requirement resets, or that winnings from the credit are kept or capped. Your own cashier shows the result in its balance labels.

Can the expiry date of a promotion change?

RA 7394, Article 120, says the concerned department is advised of any change in the termination dates of a sales promotion, and a change to the end date is published before the original schedule ends. A notice that moves its end date without telling you is worth questioning with the casino's support.
