SG777 Online Poker: How a Hand Plays Out on a Screen

Online poker uses the same 52-card deck and the same nine hand ranks as a table game, but a random number generator shuffles, the software seats you, and a timer replaces the dealer's patience.

SG777 Poker Cards
Poker cards come in a standard 52-card deck: four suits of thirteen ranks, ace high down to two.
SG777 Flush Poker
In flush poker terms, a flush is five cards of one suit not in sequence.
SG777 Pusoy Combinations, From Singles to Straight Flush
Pusoy combinations come in four sizes: single cards, pairs, triples and five-card groups.

Online poker keeps everything that makes the card game what it is, the 52 cards, the nine hand ranks and the rounds of betting, and swaps the parts a person used to do for software. Nobody riffles the deck, nobody counts your chips out loud, and a clock on the screen tells you when your turn ends. Once you see which parts changed, the game itself is the one you already know.

Online poker versus a home game

Three things behave differently the moment poker moves onto a screen.

Part of the gameAt a home tableOn a screen
The shuffleA player riffles and cuts the deckA random number generator orders the 52 cards before each deal
Your seatYou pick a chairThe software assigns a seat, often at random
SpeedThe table waits for youA countdown limits how long you can think
ChipsPhysical tokens in three or four coloursA number beside your name

The shuffle matters most. Regulators who certify game software require outcomes to be random and independent of earlier results: Gaming Laboratories International’s GLI-11 standard says a random number generator’s outcomes must not depend on previous ones. No pattern in the last ten hands tells you anything about the next one.

How a hand plays out, step by step

Most screen tables run a shared-card game such as Texas Hold’em. A hand follows the same order every time:

  1. Two players post forced bets, the small blind and the big blind, so there is something to play for.
  2. Each player receives two private cards.
  3. A betting round runs: you may fold, call the current bet or raise it.
  4. Three shared cards appear (the flop), then a fourth (the turn), then a fifth (the river), each followed by another betting round.
  5. Players still in show their cards, and the best five-card hand from their two private cards and the five shared cards wins the pot.

pagat.com’s betting rules describe the same blinds and the choice between fixed-limit, pot-limit and no-limit betting. Read which one a table uses before you join, because it decides how fast a pot can grow.

The nine hand ranks, counted

Every poker decision rests on how rare a hand is. The counts below are plain arithmetic on a 52-card deck, with C(n,k) meaning the number of ways to choose k items from n:

Rank (high to low)Number of five-card handsRoughly one in
Straight flush (royal flush included)4064,974
Four of a kind6244,165
Full house3,744694
Flush5,108509
Straight10,200255
Three of a kind54,91247
Two pairs123,55221
One pair1,098,2402.4
High card1,302,5402.0

The nine rows add up to 2,598,960, every possible hand. The suits and ranks on poker cards page explains how cards order inside each row, and the flush poker ranking page covers the hand that beginners most often misjudge.

Online poker Philippines: where Pusoy Dos fits

Filipino card tables have their own favourite. pagat.com records Pusoy Dos as the usual Philippine name for Big Two, a game where you shed cards by beating the last play, using singles, pairs, triples and poker-style five-card groups. It is not poker: twos rank highest, suits rank in a fixed order, and two pairs is not a legal play. The Pusoy Dos combinations ranked page lists every group you can lead and what beats it.

For poker played for money in the Philippines, PAGCOR is the regulator, and its site publishes the lists of licensed operators and their web addresses. Read those lists rather than a badge on a page before you put a peso on a table.

Reading a table before you sit

Every screen table prints its terms in a corner or an info panel, and four of them decide whether the table suits you:

What to readWhy it matters
The blinds, such as ₱5/₱10Sets the cost of every orbit before you play a hand
The betting structureFixed-limit caps each raise; no-limit lets anyone bet everything
Minimum and maximum buy-inTells you how many big blinds you start with
Seats, often 6 or 9Fewer seats means the blinds come round faster

A six-seat table at ₱5/₱10 costs you ₱15 in blinds every six hands even if you fold them all, as a worked example. Choose the table whose cost per orbit fits the budget you set, and skip the rest.

Staking a table you can afford

Poker swings. A strong hand can lose to a lucky river card, and a session can run cold for an hour. Size your stake before the first hand:

  1. Set the session budget, the amount you are prepared to lose today.
  2. Divide it into the big blind of the table you choose; a ₱1,000 budget at a ₱10 big blind gives 100 big blinds, as a worked example.
  3. Leave the table when the budget is spent, not when you feel you are due a win.

The bet unit meaning in plain words helps you think in units rather than pesos, which keeps a bad run from turning into a bigger bet.

Common beginner problems and their fixes

Problem

You lose track of whose turn it is and the timer folds your hand.

Fix
Turn on the table’s action sound if it has one, and keep the poker table as the only open tab while you play.
Problem

You call every bet because your two cards are suited.

Fix
Two suited cards make a flush by the river only rarely. Fold weak suited cards early and save the chips.
Problem

A disconnection drops you mid-hand.

Fix
Most tables fold or check for a player who disconnects. Read the table’s rules on disconnections before you sit, and play on a stable connection.

Other card and table games on this site

Poker sits beside slots and fish tables in most lobbies, and the JILI studio’s game portfolio lists table and card games among its specialisms. FAQ

What is online poker?

It is poker dealt by software instead of a person. The cards, the hand ranks and the betting rounds are the same as at a physical table. A random number generator does the shuffling, and the screen shows only your own cards until the showdown.

Is online poker legal in the Philippines?

PAGCOR licenses and regulates gaming in the Philippines and publishes lists of the operators and sites it covers on pagcor.ph. Check the operator you plan to use against those lists yourself before you deposit anything.

How many poker hands are possible?

A standard deck gives 2,598,960 different five-card hands. That count is C(52,5): the number of ways to choose 5 cards from 52 when order does not matter.

Which poker hand is the rarest?

The royal flush. Only four exist, one per suit, so the chance of being dealt one in five cards is 4 in 2,598,960, or 1 in 649,740.

Is Pusoy Dos a kind of poker?

Not quite. pagat.com describes Pusoy Dos as the Philippine name for Big Two, a climbing game that borrows poker's five-card combinations but ranks twos highest and has no two-pair play.

How much should I bring to a poker table?

Only an amount you have already set aside to lose. Decide it before you sit down, divide it into bets you can repeat many times, and leave when it is gone.
